THE 'SOGGY OPEN'

Once again, despite rainy weather, the Alice Hyde Medical Center’s Annual Benefit Golf Tournament was a great success. The Medical Center’s 12th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament, held at the Malone Golf Club, raised more than $30,000 that will support and enhance vital services and programs as well as provide much needed funding for the upcoming “in-house” Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) building renovation project. Renovations to the Emergency and Medical Imaging Departments will allow for the installation of a new MR machine, replacing the Mobile MRI service that the Medical Center currently utilizes. MRI services will be available twenty-four hours-a-day, three hundred and sixty-five days-a-year.
“After a second year in a row of being rained off the course we have decided we might start calling our tournament the ‘Soggy Open’” joked John Johnson, AHMC President/CEO. “Kidding aside, we are sincerely grateful to everyone who was involved and for their commitment and generosity, especially to those who took part despite the inclement weather.” The event included a dinner and gift for the participants, prizes, and the 2nd Annual Golf Ball Drop fundraising contest. Winners of the contest purchased chances for the three, out of approximately 550 golf balls, that landed closest to the hole. The winners of the ball drop: Paul Frederick (Grand Prized, $2,500) Chuck Mckee (2nd prize, $1,000) Angela Bashaw (3rd prize, $500)

REDDY CANCER TREATMENT CENTER TO HOLD NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVOR’S DAY CELEBRATION

The Reddy Cancer Treatment Center is hosting its 10th Annual National Cancer Survivor’s Day Celebration on Friday, June 6th from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on 4th Street at the Alice Hyde Medical Center campus in Malone.
The celebratory picnic is being held as part of National Cancer Survivor’s Day (NCSD), the world’s largest and fastest growing cancer survivor event. This event is free of charge and all cancer survivors, their loved ones, and caregivers are invited. The celebration is one of hundreds of events taking place across North America, Canada, and other participating countries to honor cancer survivors and those who support them, and to call attention to the issues of cancer survivorship. NCSD gives voice to the millions of people who have been touched by cancer. Cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, friends, and health care professionals will unite in this symbolic event to show the world that life after cancer diagnosis can be a reality. The picnic combines food, fun, friendship, and prize drawings for cancer survivors. You will find the picnic filled with joy and camaraderie as the Center honors cancer survivors for their desire to live each day to the fullest. “This celebration represents the spirit of hope and strength that lives in the hearts of every cancer survivor and those currently fighting the disease,” said John Johnson, AHMC President/CEO. A cancer survivor is defined by the NCSD Foundation as anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life, according to the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, which reports that an estimated 12 million Americans are cancer survivors. The non-profit National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation supports hundreds of hospitals, support groups, and other cancer-related organizations that host National Cancer Survivors Day events in their communities, by providing free guidance, education, and networking. Its primary mission is to educate the public on the issues of cancer survivorship in order to better the quality of life for cancer survivors. All are cancer survivors, their loved ones, and caregivers are invited to the celebration. For more information, contact the Reddy Cancer Treatment Center at 518-481-2880.
