Hospice

Hospice

Hospice is specialized care for people who are facing a life-limiting illness. It is a team approach to medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support that is tailored to the patient's needs and wishes. Support is also provided to the patient's loved ones. At the center of hospice care is the belief that everyone has the right to die pain-free and with dignity, and that families will receive the necessary support to allow us to do so.

Hospice care is provided in a patient’s home, nursing homes, or hospitals by an interdisciplinary team consisting of physicians, registered nurses, LPNs, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers. The focus of hospice is not to cure the patient but to improve their quality of life. Hospice in the United States has grown from a volunteer-led movement to improve care for people dying alone, isolated, or in hospitals, to a significant part of the health care system.

Hospice of the North Country is a non-profit, community-based agency providing care to the residents of northern Franklin County and Clinton County, New York. Visit hospicenc.org for more information.
