MALONE, NY (01/14/2020) – Physician Assistant Erika Thompson is the newest member of the University of Vermont Health Network – Alice Hyde Medical Center (AHMC) Medical Staff. She joins Family Nurse Practitioner Kathleen Lauzon in the Leroux Health Center, 577 County Route 1, Fort Covington, NY 12937, phone (518) 481-8470.
Thompson is a 2011 graduate of Daemen College, Amherst, N.Y., where she earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. She completed internships in various specialties including Cardiology, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine at private practices and hospitals in the Buffalo, N.Y. area. From 2011 to 2013 she practiced with Suburban Cardiology of Williamsville, N.Y., with a focus on evaluating and treating common cardiac problems in both outpatient and inpatient settings, interpreting EKGs and performing exercise stress tests. In 2013 Thompson returned to the North Country and made her focus family medicine and community health and wellness, practicing at Alice Hyde Medical Center from 2013-2015.
“My goal with every patient is to push them towards a healthy lifestyle, and really try and help them take control of their own health and improve it as best they can,” said Thompson. “I like to lay out all the options and give patients the information to be able to choose the path for their healthcare.”
In particular, Cardiology is a focus for Thompson, who said she looks forward to helping patients in the North Country address risk factors for conditions such as heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
“Helping patients improve their cardiovascular health is a passion of mine,” said Thompson. “With many patients having so many underlying health problems in general, it’s really critical for us as providers to think outside the box a little bit and help them become the best version of themselves that they can be.”
