Alice Hyde Expands State-Sponsored COVID-19 Testing Program

UVM Health Network – Alice Hyde Medical Center is expanding its Satellite State-sponsored COVID-19 Testing program and, in partnership with Franklin County Public Health, reminding residents of considerations for who should get tested for COVID-19.

Effective immediately, the state sponsored testing program will be available from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday, at Alice Hyde’s Drive-Thru COVID Test Site at 130 Park Street, behind Alice Hyde Occupational Health & Wellness.

“Providing this testing is one more way we are supporting our community through this pandemic,” said Matt Jones, Alice Hyde’s Chief Operating Officer, “and at this time we felt it was important to expand the availability of this testing option for our community.”

The program offers COVID-19 testing free of charge to those who do not have symptoms of the virus and meet other criteria, including:

·         The need to be tested to return or remain at work.

·         Anyone subject to a precautionary or mandatory quarantine by the Department of Health.

·         Those considered essential workers and who have direct public contact.

A complete list of criteria can be found on the Alice Hyde website. Testing for asymptomatic individuals during the designated days and times will be provided without a physician’s order. However, a completed requisition form, which can also be found on the Alice Hyde website, is required.

Asymptomatic individuals seeking a COVID-19 test during state-sponsored testing hours will remain in their vehicles and all testing, check-in and check-out procedures will be completed at the curbside. The testing site will offer 15 tests during the 2-hour state-sponsored testing period each day, Monday – Friday.

Test results will be available in 7 to 14 days and can be accessed online via the BioReference Laboratory patient portal. A hard copy of the results will also be mailed to each patient. Those with a positive result will be contacted directly by a hospital representative.

Alice Hyde’s Drive-Thru Testing Site also provides COVID-19 testing for both symptomatic patients and pre-operative patients scheduled for surgery or a variety of medical procedures, as required by New York State Department of Health. That testing is performed from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday, and from   9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Patients receive their results directly from the ordering provider. Those in need of a record of a negative test in order to return to work can request one from Alice Hyde Health Information Services Department by calling (518) 481-2392, or (518) 481-2215.

Who Should Get Tested?

As the number of COVID-19 cases rises in our community, Alice Hyde, in partnership with Franklin County Public Health Department, is reminding people that not everyone needs to be tested. Those who should get tested for COVID-19 include (based on CDC recommendations):

·         People who have symptoms of COVID-19.

·         People who have had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) with a confirmed COVID-positive individual.

·         People who have been asked or referred to get testing by their health care provider, or county or state health department.

Dr. Lisa Mark, Alice Hyde’s Chief Medical Officer, said those who have symptoms should remain at home while they await their test results and follow the advice of their health care provider and/or public health officials.

“If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, the most important thing you can do is stay home, separate yourself from others, call your health care provider and follow their instructions,” said Mark. “COVID testing is an important tool to help us track the spread of the virus in our community, but it can also give people a false sense of security. Getting tested will not protect you from catching or spreading the virus, and at best it is a snapshot of your condition at the time you are tested. Healthy behaviors such as masking, social distancing, and proper hand and respiratory hygiene are critical tools to protect ourselves and everyone else.”

Symptoms of COVID-19, according to the CDC, include: Cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea of vomiting, and diarrhea.

How Can I Get Tested?

Multiple COVID-19 testing options for both symptomatic and asymptomatic people are available in our area.

Alice Hyde’s Drive Thru Test Site at 130 Park Street is open from 9 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Monday – Friday, and from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The testing site offers testing with a provider’s order as well as state-sponsored testing for asymptomatic individuals.

UVM Health Network – CVPH’s Drive Thru Test Site is open from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., seven days a week. The testing site offers options for both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals.

Additional options are also available throughout our region, and people should speak directly with their health care provider to determine whether a COVID-19 test is the right option for them.
