Alice Hyde Expands Hospital Visitation

Patients at UVM Health Network – Alice Hyde Medical Center can enjoy longer visits, and in some cases welcome additional visitors or support persons, after the hospital announced Tuesday that it has expanded its welcoming policy.

Effective Thursday, August 5, visitation at the hospital will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week – more than doubling the hospital’s visitation period, which had been restricted to 4 hours per day. Alice Hyde will also permit visitors ages 12 and up to enter the hospital, loosening restrictions that had required all visitors to be at least 18 years of age. Other revisions to Alice Hyde’s welcoming policy include:

·         End-of-life patients may have 4 visitors at a time (up from 2 visitors).

·         Patients who are COVID-19-positive, suspected of having COVID-19, or under quarantine may have 2 support persons at a time (up from 1 support person).

·         Patients undergoing same-day or Ambulatory Surgery procedures may be accompanied by up to 2 support persons (up from 1 previously).

The hospital’s updated welcoming policy reflects guidance from the New York State Department of Health, as well as Alice Hyde’s commitment to ensuring patients and their loved ones are able to connect while in the hospital, said Matt Jones, Alice Hyde’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Family members and loved ones are important members of our patients’ care teams, and play a key role in recovery and supporting their well-being,” said Jones. “We are pleased to expand visitation at Alice Hyde as New York State sees ongoing success with its continued vaccination efforts.”

Hospital officials emphasized that although Alice Hyde’s visitation policy has been expanded, COVID-19 precautions remain in effect in health care settings throughout New York State. Anyone entering the hospital or any other Alice Hyde facility must be screen for symptoms of the virus and is required to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth throughout their time in any Alice Hyde facility.
